Dementia Early Diagnosis & Prevention Solution 'BREDIS Healthcare' Secures Seed Investment — Just 3 Months After Founding
May 19, 2023

BREDIS Healthcare (Co-CEOs Hyundoo Hwang and Jina Kim), a company specializing in early diagnosis and preventive management solutions for dementia through blood testing, announced on the 19th that it has successfully secured seed investment — a major achievement coming just three months after the company's founding. The investment amount and company valuation were not disclosed.
The seed round was led by KAIST Youth Startup Investment Holdings, with participation from U.S.-based investor Checkmate Capital.
Founded in February, BREDIS Healthcare provides a service through its own platform that diagnoses Alzheimer's disease and predicts its prognosis using blood tests, supporting disease management. The company's ambition is to offer an integrated solution for dementia diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and management by combining cutting-edge biomarker detection technology with AI-based data analysis.
BREDIS Healthcare holds proprietary Digital ELISA (digital immunoassay) technology, which is approximately 10,000 times more sensitive than conventional blood testing methods — a technology already recognized through domestic patent registration.
The company currently provides ultrasensitive biomarker detection services to leading university hospitals and research institutions in Korea and is preparing to obtain regulatory approval for an in vitro diagnostic medical device. Building on years of clinical research conducted even prior to its founding, BREDIS Healthcare has also developed a medical data analysis model that predicts the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease using data from multiple blood biomarkers.
This investment was made through the "KAIST Technology Startup Boost Fund," operated by KAIST Youth Startup Investment Holdings. The fund was established by KAIST alumni association executives — including corporate executives and mid-sized venture founders — to help nurture startup teams founded by fellow KAIST graduates. Beyond strong interest in the early Alzheimer's diagnosis market, the investment also reflects a firm commitment to supporting and developing KAIST-affiliated startup teams.
Hoehoon Jung, CEO of KAIST Youth Startup Investment Holdings, said, "Based on its proprietary biomarker analysis technology, BREDIS Healthcare is expected to help address the persistent issues of invasiveness and high cost in the existing diagnostics market, pioneer the early diagnosis market, and help protect people's health and happiness from Alzheimer's disease. As a startup team with KAIST roots, we also expect it to rapidly grow into a promising startup through the KAIST entrepreneurship ecosystem."
Jina Kim, CEO of BREDIS Healthcare, said, "This seed investment will serve as a springboard for achieving key business milestones, including regulatory approvals. In particular, KAIST Youth Startup Investment led a joint investment with the overseas investor Checkmate Capital to support our growth into a solution leading not only the domestic market but the global dementia market as well."
Separately, BREDIS Healthcare signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanyang University Guri Hospital for the development and commercialization of biomarkers for intractable diseases, and previously signed a partnership agreement with Pusan National University for the research and development of patient data-based diagnostic testing technology.
